Self-guided GPS tours are the way to go. Lots of variety of terrain.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★  4/18/2019 • Brian W. – Frederick, MD

Exhilarating!

Self-guided GPS tours are the way to go, no waiting for others or eating their dust. We went as two couples, each pair in a potent sports machine. Tour started on a dirt road and within 5 minutes we were on desert trails. Everything started on-time. After a short video, helmet fitting, and cooler strapping, we were on our way. Ben, the owner, was so happy for us to ride it got our spirits flying as well.

We took the 4 hour tour, doing the Hercules 45 mile trail. Lots of variety of terrain — graded dirt road in the very beginning then onto deep sand, flat hard sand, some skinny downhill sandy washes, a dried lake bed, wavy up-and-down stretches, and a rocky trail (least favorite). Plenty of time for “skiing” in deep sand, fast rush on flats, and enjoying high vistas.

When using the GPS we found it best to check your position after turning, as a few intersections can be tricky. We only went off the trail substantially in one place (it was a hard flat straightaway we had LOTS of fun on so we weren’t paying attention). The GPS also has more trouble determining your current direction since you can spin all around (unlike a car). Again, check to make sure you are on the trail after each turn and you’ll be fine. All trails are obvious, but there are a maze of them out there.

Machines ran great, the tall flags make finding others easy. We rode on a Sunday in April and passed maybe 6 people all day (other than a spot in the beginning where campers were). These are fast, they would go faster than we dared to go. Always 4WD.

This was so much fun for us 50-something adults. It wasn’t nearly as jeering as imagined, no one had any soreness the next day. Much much smoother than standard ATV’s, and certainly much much faster.

This location is a great place to ride, you are right into the desert within 5 minutes and go way out into the wild back country with substantial altitude gain. Really good experience, easy 5 stars. We did go over the time with a stop for lunch and a missed turn, we just texted owner on our way back down and it was no issue.

Great adventure!

We rented two 2-seat 2019 Polaris. Ben had everything set up and ready to go for us. He spent about 15 minutes giving safety instructions and off we went. We drove through the Hercules Trail which was about 50 miles round trip. Navigation on the Polaris made it easy to get around. We drove through the desert on sand, dirt, over rocks, up and down hills. Halfway through we stopped to eat lunch (packed our own) and then we were off again. I would highly recommend Happy Trails Rentals.

Let me just start with great customer service! Ben went above and beyond to make our experience amazing, we could tell right away that he really cares about his customers. The equipment and the vehicle were in excellent condition and the trail was easy to follow with the GPS. The view is breathtaking and the whole experience is nothing but FUN!

I highly recommend this to anyone!

Awesome experience.

Ben, the owner, was extremely accommodating. We took the four hour tour on new RZR 1000’s. They had GPS tours which kept us from getting lost. Beautiful area to go off roading. It was well worth the 2 hour drive from LA. Planning on coming back with friends for a weekend next year.
