Location: Johnson Valley OHV Park, CA

Johnson Valley is one of California’s most diverse and iconic off-highway playgrounds, offering wide-open freedom across a dramatic desert landscape. The terrain shifts continuously—from towering red rock mountains and rugged ridgelines to rolling hills, sandy washes, and expansive dry lake beds. Elevations range from approximately 4,600 feet to 2,300 feet, creating distinct views, temperatures, and riding conditions. The valley is naturally decorated with creosote bush, seasonal wildflowers, desert grasses, and the famous Joshua Trees that define the Mojave.

The southeastern region features the legendary hills known worldwide as The Hammers—a proving ground for only the most advanced rock crawlers and home to the internationally recognized King of the Hammers event. Only highly skilled drivers should attempt this extreme terrain.

North of The Hammers, the landscape opens into routes perfect for beginner to intermediate riders, along with small dune-style sections for added excitement. On the western edge, Anderson Dry Lake is a popular hotspot for casual riding, training, and group activities thanks to its wide, forgiving surface.

Across the valley you’ll find rolling buttes, jagged rock formations, steep climbs, historic mine trails, scenic overlooks, and endless space to explore. From relaxed cruising to adrenaline-charged rock crawling, Johnson Valley offers one of the most authentic and diverse OHV environments in the United States. Whether you’re new to off-roading or a seasoned pro, Johnson Valley delivers unforgettable riding for every skill level.

Extremely well-maintained vehicles. Friendly and outgoing service – Ben was awesome! I run Jeeps back east and I can tell you that this is a fantastic way to spend a few hours exploring the desert. You will not be disappointed.
